And here I thought this would be a walkover for Arsenal. Crystal Palace were well organized and Arsenal were only able to sneak in a win in the dying minutes.
My Prediction: Arsenal 4-0 Crystal Palace
Actual scoreline: Arsenal 2-1 Crystal Palace
Thoughts: At least Arsenal won the game as I predicted.
By the time the second leg rolls around, Arsenal are usually on the verge of qualifying. This time round, the tie ended on a knife edge. Demba Ba showed Arsenal what they had missed out on with our defenders finding it hard to keep up with his pace and power. This is the game where Arsenal fans were able to recognize the talent that is Calum Chambers.
My prediction: Besiktas 1-3 Arsenal
Actual scoreline: Besiktas 0-0 Arsenal
Thoughts: I was way off with my prediction. Nuff said.
We all knew Goodison Park was going to be a hard place to come to but our defence was in shambles. Credit to the team for fighting all the way to the end but if we don’t improve our defence and positioning, our title rivals will destroy us.
My prediction: Everton 1-1 Arsenal
Actual scoreline: Everton 2-2 Arsenal
Final thoughts: A draw was a good result especially after our midweek exertions.
Another extremely difficult game. The only difference was this time Arsenal came out swinging, creating clear chances. It could have gone so wrong for us if Ba had managed to sneak in THAT header at the death. As it is Arsenal qualify for the group stage for the 17th year in a row.
My Prediction: Arsenal 2-0 Besiktas
Actual scoreline: Arsenal 1-0 Besiktas
Final thoughts: Arsenal are learning to win dirty. Hooray!
Oh boy didn’t I get this one wrong. Arsenal was lucky to come away with a point from this game. To be fair, the players looked exhausted and gave their all. Arsene Wenger…you do know you have quality players on the bench to call upon don’t you??
My Prediction: Leicester City 0-7 Arsenal
Actual scoreline: Leicester City 1-1 Arsenal
Final thoughts: Kudos to Leicester City for proving they belong in the Premier League
Overall prediction scores: 3/5 Not too shabby I guess…
Overall Analysis:
Arsenal have began to lose and draw games at the same places Chelsea is picking up points. We cannot be drawing against teams like Leicester City no matter what excuse we come up with. No striker we buy is going to solve our issues if we cannot produce performances worthy of champions or at least get maximum points from difficult games. Arsenal is already four points behind Chelsea. Alarm bells should be ringing.
